Marinedeck 2000: A Simple Maintenance Guide

Marinedeck 2000 is one of the lowest-maintenance decking surfaces you can fit to a boat. It’s designed to be durable, stain resistant and long-lasting and has been proven to last over 30 years in tough marine conditions.

Day-to-Day Cleaning

For everyday dirt, salt residue, and general grime, a rinse with fresh water is all you need. For a more thorough clean, a mild soap or gentle boat deck cleaner with a soft-bristle brush or sweeper pads (such as doodlebug pads) works perfectly. Always avoid harsh solvents, bleach-based products or oil-based products.

Dealing with Stains

Cork’s natural composition makes it more resistant to staining than you might expect, but spills do happen. For particularly stubborn stains that won’t shift with cleaning alone, light sanding (80 grit) of the affected area can remove the mark entirely and restore the surface. This is another benefit of working with a natural cork composite rather than a synthetic alternative.

What to Avoid

• Pressure washers used at close range or high pressure can erode the surface 
• Bleach or chlorine-based cleaners – these degrade the natural cork over time
• Sharp metal tools for scraping – cork can be scratched if treated roughly

Repairing Damage

This is where Marinedeck 2000 has a real advantage over traditional teak. Cork can handle general daily activity but if a small area does get damaged – a deep scratch, or a dent from a dropped anchor – only that section needs attention. Small repairs can be carried out without disturbing the rest of the deck, saving significant time and cost compared to the extensive work a teak deck repair typically demands.

It’s also worth noting that cork’s natural resilience means minor compression from foot traffic or equipment often recovers on its own within 24 hours.

Long-Term Care

Marinedeck 2000 is UV-stable and doesn’t require sealing, oiling, or annual treatments the way natural teak does. There’s no caulking to re-do and no varnishing. For most owners, a regular wash-down and the occasional deeper clean is genuinely all that’s needed — and with the product proven to last 30 years and beyond, it’s an investment that pays for itself many times over.
