Cork Campervan Flooring: Why Boat Decking Makes the Best Van Floor

Your van floor has a harder life than any floor in your house. It sits a few millimetres above cold steel. It gets wet boots, sandy feet, muddy dogs and dripping wetsuits. It shakes down motorways and sits through frosty nights and baking afternoons. And every kilo and every millimetre it adds comes off your payload and your headroom.

Most van floors handle one or two of those jobs. Marinedeck 2000 was built to handle all of them, because it was designed for the deck of a boat.

Made for the sea, now in vans

Marinedeck 2000 was developed for the marine industry over 40 years ago as an alternative to teak decking. Boat decks face salt water, UV, spray and bare feet, every day. A material that lasts out there has an easy job inside a van.

It's made from granulated cork pressed under 400 tonnes of compression. That gives you a dense, tough surface that has been proven to last 30+ years in tough conditions, while keeping the warmth and comfort cork is known for.

Warm in winter, cool in summer

Cork is a natural insulator. It stays warm underfoot on cold mornings, so no more freezing feet when you step out of bed. In summer it stays cooler than vinyl, so it doesn't heat up in the sun. Because the floor helps hold the temperature, your heater and fan don't have to work as hard either.

Non-slip, even when wet

The surface has a natural grip and a slightly cushioned feel. That matters when you're climbing in after a surf, a swim or a wet walk. It's also fire-retardant, which counts for something in a small space with a cooker.

Lighter than the alternatives

Marinedeck 2000 is lighter than rubber, vinyl or timber flooring. We recommend 6mm for vans, which gives you insulation and comfort without raising your floor height. Thicker options are available if you want them.

Easy to keep clean

It's water-repellent and stain-resistant, so mud, sand and spills wipe off. It doesn't need sealing or coating. Many converters still add our impregnator and sealant for extra protection against wet kit and muddy boots.

A natural, sustainable choice

Our cork is FSC certified, from sustainably managed Portuguese forests. Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak, which grows back. No trees are cut down.

No joints, no gaps

Plank-style vinyl and timber floors have butt joints, and that's where water and dirt get in. Marinedeck 2000 sheets join seamlessly end to end, so you get a clean finish with no joins. You can choose unlimited designs or a plank look, as the grooves are cut into the surface for style, not as weak points.

Cut to fit your van, exactly

We cut every floor on our own CNC machine. Send us a DXF file of your floor plan, with wheel arches, seat runners and any other features, and we'll:

  1. Talk through your design, thickness and any custom details with you
  2. CNC-cut the floor to the millimetre, with clean, professional edges
  3. Check every panel by hand, then pack and send it to you ready to install

You can choose a plain finish, traditional plank grooves, a border margin around the edge, or a bespoke design, such as your logo cut into the floor.

No DXF file yet? Give us a call and we'll talk you through the next steps.

Prefer to fit it yourself?

We also supply the materials: Marinedeck 2000 sheets, adhesive, impregnator and sealant, written guidance from templating to finishing, and phone and email support.

Is it right for your van?

Marinedeck 2000 is a premium floor, and it costs more than vinyl or carpet. If you're building a van to last, one you'll use all year in all weathers, it's the floor you won't need to replace. Our materials and our pre-fabricated floors come with a 5-year warranty.
